A Good Friday

As Jesus died in public humiliation, so shall He be praised and exalted in public.

One of the things I love about our church, St. Nicholas, is that it is in the center of Durham, literally on the market square, so that we are present with the people of the town, whether believers or not. And so it was most fitting to have our Good Friday remembrance in front of the church, amidst the tourists and Bimbi's fish-and-chips snackers.

It brings to mind all sorts of thoughts about what it means to have an Established Church, which is such a foreign idea to us Americans who have had such establishment outlawed from the very first day. But that is a difficult topic with many landmines on all sides, so best saved for another day.
